Features for the Husqvarna R120S

Desiring to meet the needs of value-minded consumers, Husqvarna released the Husqvarna R120S as the newest edition to their articulated riding mowers. With a pivoting rear axle, you can make quicker, tighter turns than the typical lawn tractor. The front-mounted side discharge deck gives the operator a great view of the mowing area, especially when cutting around trees, gardens, or other tricky obstacles in the lawn. The R120S features automatic blade engagement with a pedal-operated hydrostatic transmission that reaches speeds up to 5.5 mph.

  • Articulated Steering: The rear wheel drive system with pivoting axle allows the back wheels to swing in under the machine, resulting in better maneuverability and simpler operation.
  • Front Mounted Cutting Deck: The side discharge mowing deck is mounted on the front of the machine, giving you a better view of the mowing area and easier access to hard-to-reach places, like under bushes and around corners.
  • Ergonomic Position: With a low center of gravity, the operator feels more safe and stable. Plus it improves traction.
  • Hydrostatic Transmission: Pedal-operated hydrostatic transmission smoothly gets up to speed and changes direction, while you keep both hands on the wheel.
  • Automatic Blade Engagement: The blades automatically engage when the mowing deck is lowered.

The RS-120 is the most agile mower I have ever driven. My property is hilly and has a lot of obstructions. The RS-120 zips through and around hills flower beds, trees, and fence lines with ease. Traction is good and having the deck out front makes it easy to see what you are mowing. I am a big guy with a hilly property and worried that the engine would be too small but it has plenty of power. As a bonus my fuel consumption is half what my old mower used. The delivery was fast. I bought the lift gate service and the professional driver put the pallet right beside my garage.

In reference to some starting issues that others have reported I did have trouble getting the mower to start at first. The battery was stone dead when I got the mower but after five mows the engine has loosened a bit and the battery seems to hold a charge now. At first the mower did backfire when I shut it off but after using it six weeks that has stopped.

I am really pleased with the mower and am glad I bought it before it went out of production. It is a bit hard to get used to but once you learn how to steer the RS-120 it runs circles around a traditional mower. Husqvarna should reconsider pulling this from the US market. It is a great mower. It would just take time for the US consumer to understand that the deck in the front and articulated steering are great features.

Review:
Initially the mower would not start after I drove it the first time. It acted like the battery was low. It would start after that but eventually it would not start even after charging so I bought a new battery. Still would not start, so I started following wires from the battery, reseated any connectors I found, and haven't had any issue since.

For some reason the rollers on the deck leave dead stripes in my bermuda grass. Seems like the deck weight may be too heavy, I don't know.  It quite often scalps if I turn tightly while mowing. But I like the ride and the way it handles.

After the delivery fiasco, my husband finally got to try out the mower for the first time.  He loves it, although he hit a tree root and bent the blade which we have to replace.  He says it handles great and now that the hidden root is gone, we anticipate lots of happy times with our new mower.  Thanks.

Although i have only used it a couple of times. I think the battery should be a little more cranking amps as most of the time i have to connect my jumper box to start it the first time and most of the time when i turn it off it backfires. 
It cuts very well and it takes some time to get the feel of the steering but it is very responsive.
I will reserve my final rateing for a while to see if the problems settle down or how fast it is taken care of.

this is a great mower for a one acre yard. It is very comfortable to drive and easy on my back. the steering takes a little getting used to, not long, but it feels different from other mowers. things I like: comfortable, quiet, fast, very maneuverable. the one thing I wish it had was a mulch kit.

The Husky R120S is an awesome rider - my neighbor maintains the grounds and greens for a major league golf course near Philly and it blew him away!  Goes uphill like a billy goat, swerves around and between close planted screen trees like a snake.

Plus sales and delivery from Jack's were first class, two definite thumbs up.

Brian, the R120S rider is equipped with a Briggs & Stratton Endurance series engine, featuring full-pressure lubrication. It does have an oil pump.

Husqvarna's Articulated Riding Mowers are manufactured in Europe. Briggs and Stratton engines are assembled in the US, but may contain parts that were manufactured in other countries.

I want to know zero turn or articulated mower best for small lawns with a lot of bordered flower beds, I use a 72 inch zero turn now I need something that can be used like a push mower looking for 30 to 34 inch cut

Mary, articulated riding mowers have a front-mounted deck, which allows for a better view and maneuverability around obstacles and flower beds, compared to a zero turn. But if you're looking for a 30-34 inch deck size, a wide-area-walk behind mower would provide more functionality of a push mower with the deck size you're looking for.

Walter, the Husqvarna R120S uses an articulated steering system, which allows the rear wheels to swing underneath to minimize the turning radius. It is also outfitted with a steering wheel for intuitive steering and maneuverability.

when ordering this online to be delievered to my house, how does it come? How much of it has to be put together?

Answer:
Aaron, the Husqvarna R120S articulated riding mower ships complete with the deck installed. You must also purchase lift gate service during checkout if you will be unable to unload the unit from the freight truck yourself. However some pre-usage checks should be made before operating, such as checking the oil, fueling, charging battery, etc. Also, review the Owner's Manual for initial setup recommendations and guidelines.
