The Honda HRX217VKA self-propelled lawn mower features their variable speed Select Drive, which allows you to adjust speed from 0 to 4 mph using a adjustable dial on the handle bars. This mower has the Versamow System with Clip Director, which allows for 4-in-1 cutting options; mulch, bag, discharge, and leaf shred. The Honda HRX217VKA also has a twin blade cutting system that creates more finely cut clippings.

Select Drive System: Easily adjust the speed by rotating the speed adjust dial. Then engage the Select Drive control for intuitive, comfortable speed control up to 4 mph.
Versamow System: 4-in-1 mowing options (mulch, bag, discharge, and leaf shred). Honda's Versamow Clip Director allows you to control how much grass is sent to the collector or recirculated for mulching. Choose full bag or full mulch or any of the 7 increments between the those two settings.
MicroCut Twin Blade System: The MicroCut twin blade system produces smaller clipping sizes, which lead to better decomposition for mulched grass and better bagging since the clippings compact better into the collection bag.
NeXite Cutting Deck: The Honda HRX217VKA's cutting deck is made of NeXite, which is a high impact resistant and durable polymer material. This deck comes with a lifetime warranty and is resistant to dents, rust, and corrosion. The HRX217VKA's deck is also designed to keep grass circulating longer to produce a finer quality of mulch.
Honda GCV200 Engine: The Honda GCV200 engine is a powerful, high quality engine that is CARB compliant and features an automatic choke that makes it easy to start.

Review:

Mower was packaged well and after adding oil and gas it started on first pull. Have only used in in mulching mode so fart and it does do a great job at that with a very clean cut and fairly fine clippings. I don't know if it vibrates more than my previous mower or just at a different frequency but my hands have a much more intense pins and needles effect after mowing. I've purchased some new gloves with anti-vibration padding in the palms and fingers to help mitigate this issue.

I'm also a little disappointed in the self-propel controls. It has been difficult to dial in to the speed I want (which is fairly slow for optimal mulching). If I have the control turned down it just seems to "slip" more as it's getting started and once underway it's still a fairly high rate of speed. If I turn the control up I mostly just notice less slippage when starting and about the same speed. It seems to be operating just like the controls on the HRN model a friend of mine has - the further you press the faster you go. I'm hoping this is just something that needs some time to breaki in.

Overall I"m happy with the mower and knowing Honda engines and the

NeXite mower deck this should last me years.

This is an excellent lawnmower. It is well made, has good controls and cuts the grass cleanly. The multiple ways you can mow (bag/mulch/leaves) provides needed versatility and works well. The mower starts easily. The mower is quiet compared to my previous mowers. The adjustable speed control is very convenient and easy to use.

Mower starts easy, cuts smooth, vacuums up clippings whether wet or dry. It is bulkier than my last mower (a push) which makes it a little more difficult to get around shrubs and tight spots. It is easy to clean after mowing--washes off well. Wheel height adjustments work well but are a little difficult to adjust because it needs a little muscle to adjust. This, in spite of some minor issues is a real good mower and I have no cognitive dissonance after the purchase. It is heavy if it must be lifted for transport or storage, and it folds away compactly.

Starts easy, and after running it through tall grass trying to stall or slow it down it exceeded my expectations. Haven't been able to test it in damp grass yet. I'm not crazy about the plaastic mower deck, but I knew before purchasing. The self propel, despite other negative reviews is the most ergonomic and controllable I've used and climbs inclines well. Pulling it rearward also is an improvement over the last Honda rear wheel I used.

Despite the majority of the mower being high quality, the pull rope diameter is smaller, and the pull handle is a cheap, hollow plastic handle (On an $800 lawnmower, are you kidding Honda??) I'll have to replace it with an ergonomic rubber handle which will match the quality of the rest of the mower. That's why I deducted a star. When the pull rope breaks one day, I'll restring it with paracord instead of the reduced diameter garbage Honda used...thank goodness it starts on the first pull...

I bought this mower for my daughter. When it arrived the packet of oil had leaked out of its container and saturated the owners manual that it was packed with. She needs a new owners manual and a packet of oil to fill the engine. The mower was on the FedX truck for many days before it was delivered which may have caused the oil package to rupture and leak out.

Wheels slip slightly on incline (w/moisture), not a big deal, just adjust drive speed.

Getting spoiled by mulch feature! Not stopping to dump bag several times (my old mower) has cut my mowing time down considerably. It will get up and go if you set the drive too high. I would recommend this mower to others.
